EFSA adds 15 new plant species to the Xylella host database

Jan 10, 2023 | News

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) added 15 new plants species to the Xylella fastidiosa host plants database. The collection is now accounting for 423 plant species, 194 genera, and 68 families, determined with at least two different detection methods or positive with one method. Those figures rise to 679 plant species, 304 genera and 88 families, if considered regardless of the detection methods applied.

The creation of the database and its “mise à jour” are specific tasks requested by the European Commission to EFSA. The update covers the literature published from 1 January 2022 up to 30 June 2022. The new host plants were reported from Brazil, France, Italy, Portugal and Spain and infected by subspecies multiplex, pauca or not unknown. The updated database includes two new Sequences Types (ST) belonging to multiplex subsp. in host plants in natural conditions, and information on plant species’ tolerant/resistant response to X. fastidiosa infection.
