In Apulia (southern Italy), the new season of surveys in Xf-resistant olive groves started. With the emergence of the new generation of spittlebug nymphs, the joined teams of CRSFA and CNR-IPSP have begun the annual program for monitoring the spittlebug population in relation to the management practices in different young olive groves.
Later in the summer, surveys will also include sampling plant materials to determine the prevalence and progression of the infections. The aim of these experimental tasks is to define the best management practices to preserve resistant trees from severe re-infections in areas affected by the Xylella epidemics. The work is a joint effort between the EU project Bexyl and the Italian project REACH-XY.
