Evaluation of Xylella fastidiosa management strategies in the Balearic Islands

Dec 30, 2022 | News

A recently published paper by researchers of the BeXyl consortium describes different management strategies to fight against X. fastidiosa in the Balearic Islands.
The authors underline the specificity of the situation in the Balearic Islands – where a vast genetic diversity of X. fastidiosa insists on a small territory – and outline the difficulties of anticipating unexpected epidemiological problems in the legislation on harmful exotic organisms on which little biological information is available. Given that X. fastidiosa has become naturalized in the islands, coexistence alternatives based on scientific knowledge are proposed to reorient control strategies to minimize damage to crops and the landscape.
