BeXyl’s Ellis and Paco anti-Xylella dogs starring in UN-FAO video

May 18, 2024 | News

UN-FAO and IPCC (International Plant Protection Convention) produced a video entitled ‘Sniffer Dogs Saving Olive Trees from a Deadly Pest’, telling about the research conducted in Apulia to train sniffing dogs to detect plants infected with Xylella fastidiosa.

Launched in 2021 by the IPSP-CNR of Bari together with the oil producers’ organisation UNAPROL and ENCI, the Italian dog trainers organisation, the research is based on the success of experiments to detect plant pathogens by dogs and is now supported by BeXyl.

We told the story of Paco and Ellis, the 2 dogs trained so far, as part of our reportage “Xylella, ten years after”.
