In today’s nursery sector, plant health is essential to meet customer expectations and comply with strict EU and international regulations. We are exploring the future of plant health in nurseries across Europe, and your expertise is crucial to understanding the views and potential interest of nurseries in adopting thermal treatments for plant health management.
Thermal treatments, already authorised for Vitis species under EU Regulation (EU) 2020/1201 (Article 22) to ensure plants are free from Xylella fastidiosa, could be expanded to other species. By sharing your views, you will help shape the BeXyl research project and will guide future regulatory developments.
GOALS OF THE PROJECT:
Assess the level of knowledge on the subject of Xylella and the perception of the risk of direct/indirect damage to nursery activities and trade in propagating materials, growing plants, and finished plants
Assess nursery interest in thermal treatments: Understand the level of interest nurseries have in adopting thermal treatments for plant health, particularly beyond Vitis species.
Identify barriers and support needs: Explore the challenges nurseries face in implementing thermal treatments and what resources or support (technical, financial, or regulatory) would encourage implementation.
Guide research on plant species: Collect feedback on which plant species nurseries prioritise for future thermal treatment research, helping guide efforts to expand the use of this method across a broader range of plants.
Willingness/interest to be informed about BeXyl and/or participate in future experimental activities. The data will be collected, analysed and published by the research team, which consists of CNR and ENA.
